Pakhar, the 14th typhoon this year, landed in Taishan, south China's Guangdong Province, at around 9:00 a.m. (0100 GMT) on Sunday, bringing gales of 33 meters per second at its eye, according to local meteorological authorities.
Cities in Guangdong and nearby areas will suffer downpours within the next 24 hours.

Later the storm will move westward into the neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and is expected to weaken.
Early Sunday morning, Hong Kong issued a Typhoon 8 signal, the third-highest warning level, as Pakhar is forecast to skirt within 150km southwest of the region.
All ferry services in Hong Kong were suspended.
The powerful storm, named after a freshwater fish that lives in the lower Mekong River, came just days after Typhoon Hato swept through southern China.
